The Blacksmith’s Depositree is a site-specific installation commissioned by Wirksworth Festival 2013 and funded by Arts Council England. The project is Katherine Vaughan and Greg Storrar’s first commissioned work. The Depositree sits in the still active blacksmith’s workshop in the heart of Wirksworth. Two hundred and forty found objects are suspended in the space by copper wire. The nuts, bolts, and other oddities which form the blossom of the Depositree were all gathered from within the blacksmith’s workshop. A soundscape built up from recordings of the Depositree’s construction echoes around the space, and the smell of ginger nut biscuits lingers in the air.
